- Cardiac computed tomography (cardiac CT) is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses X-rays and allows an advanced examination of the structure, vasculature and function of the heart. Thus, the heart chambers, valves, ventricular myocardium, pulmonary and coronary veins and arteries, the entire aorta and pericardium can be examined.
- Coronary and aortic angiography is an invasive procedure that involves the use of a special contrast agent and X-rays to create detailed images of the coronary arteries. This investigation is used to diagnose and treat blockage of the coronary arteries, which can lead to a heart attack.
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive, objective imaging investigation that can provide 99% of the information needed to accurately diagnose heart disease and plan next steps. When standard investigations such as electrocardiogram or echocardiography do not provide sufficient clarity, the cardiologist or cardiovascular surgeon may request cardiac MRI.
