Maternal-fetal imaging

Pregnancy is a period as beautiful and emotional as it is overwhelming when the expectant mother falls ill or certain conditions worsen. These cases require a detailed, in-depth and multilateral investigation of the pathological region. The diagnostic methods used in pregnancy are:

• Ultrasound
• MRI/MRI

The imaging results are analyzed in a multidisciplinary team that includes the obstetrician-gynecologist, the radiologist/sonographer and the specialist in advanced pathology.

Ultrasound is the method most often applied in all imaging examinations during pregnancy. The sound waves used to produce images are absolutely harmless to both mother and baby.

If the pathology has affected the spine, lungs, joints, limbs, brain, paranasal sinuses and organs in the immediate vicinity, an MRI/NMR examination is chosen, to obtain detailed information and to establish the most optimal method of treatment.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging is indicated as an alternative to Computed Tomography or Radiography, exams that expose to ionizing radiation and are contraindicated in pregnancy.
