Microbiology

The Department of Microbiology provides a wide range of medical tests, which provide clinicians with the necessary information to establish a correct etiological diagnosis and initiate an etiotropic therapy. Thus it offers the possibility of improving the therapeutic success on the patient through safe microbial identification and antibiotic sensitivity testing.

Among the tests carried out within the department are:
  • all types of microbial culture products: urine cultures, coprocultures, blood cultures, exudates, puncture fluid, CSF, various secretions
  • offers expertise in bacteriology, virology
  • antibiograms by the classic and automatic method, with the possibility of testing and reporting multiple types of bacterial resistance to antibiotics and identifying minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) for the tested antibiotics.

Microbiological diagnosis, participation in monitoring the clinical evolution of infectious diseases and infection surveillance and control activities are the main fields of activity of Medical Microbiology.

Accuracy to international standards

The Medpark microbiology laboratory is designed and equipped to comply with all quality requirements and European standards in force. In the laboratory, the most advanced automated identification methods are used for the detection of microorganisms, as well as antibiotic sensitivity testing by determining the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) using the automatic analyzer.

Highly qualified specialists and high-performance equipment

The doctors and staff in this department have extensive experience in microbiology and are skilled in using the most advanced diagnostic methods for the detection and testing of infectious pathogens. Our staff advises clinicians on recommended tests, interpretation of results and recommends further testing when warranted.

Advantages of Medpark Microbiology:
  • the accuracy of the identification of all requested cultures;
  • large number of microorganisms identified;
  • fast response compared to traditional methods: working time on some biological substrates is reduced from 5 days to 24-48 hours.
